Turnip Seed is a hardy, excellent weather crop grown for its roots and green leaves. The turnip root is a rich source of Vitamin C, while the leaves provide Vitamins A, C, K, folate, and calcium. Its cultivation continues in temperate, tropical, and sub-tropical regions of Pakistan, with the commonly grown variety being white. Optimal growth occurs in loamy soils rich in organic matter, avoiding heavy, compact, or very light soils that result in malformed roots. The ideal soil pH for good growth is 5.5 to 6.8. Harvesting is done 45 to 60 days after sowing, yielding round, pure white, smooth, and crisp roots with a mild flavour. On average, it produces 105 quintals of seeds per acre. Before sowing, ensure thorough land preparation, weed and clod removal, and incorporate well-decomposed cow dung at a rate of 60-80 quintals per acre. A seed rate of 2-3 kg is sufficient for one acre of land.
